I believe our bodies are beautifully designed to nourish our babies through breastfeeding. That sacred bond—skin to skin, heart to heart—is nature’s blueprint. Once we wean, I’ve come to believe we no longer need the white liquid, or what some call “liquid gold,” from other species. Our own bodies know what to do, and they do it with wisdom.
My vegan journey began with motherhood. My oldest son, born prematurely via C-section, will be 21 this summer. Because he arrived early, my body produced a very special kind of milk—deep yellow and rich—for nearly three weeks. I later learned this was a tailored response: my body was creating exactly what my premature baby needed to thrive.
Years later, after deep research and preparation, I had a VBAC. I was determined to avoid another premature birth or surgical delivery. This time, the colostrum was different—lighter, faster, and the milk came in with ease. It was incredible to witness how each pregnancy shaped a unique breastfeeding experience. Three births, three stories, and three versions of nourishment. 💪🏽
But my shift to plant-based living wasn’t just about birth—it was about healing. I experienced mastitis, a painful inflammation that changed everything. That moment cracked something open in me. I began questioning the role of dairy in my life, in my body, and in my family’s wellness. That November, nearly 21 years ago, I made a decision: I would stop touching milk. No more dairy. No more disconnect.
Since then, my vegan path has been a celebration of clarity, compassion, and conscious nourishment. It’s not just about what I eat—it’s about how I live, how I mother, and how I advocate. Every recipe, every resource, every reflection on this blog is rooted in that choice.
